1. The eye-catching part of the HK PhD Fellowship Scheme is the amount of financial support

2. The selection is almost entirely based on academic excellency (e.g., first class honour from a good university in UG study), in particular research experience (with traditional research outputs, i.e., journal articles, even better).

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2013/14

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) in Hong Kong in 2009, the prestigious “Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme” has brought over three hundred top students from around forty countries/regions to Hong Kong to undertake PhD studies in our world-class research institutions in various fields.  For the September 2013/14 intake, the Institute is now looking for talented people who wish to pursue their PhD studies in HKIEd through the HK PhD Fellowship Scheme 2013/14.

About the award
The Fellowship will provide a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approx. KRW ₩ 2.9 million) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approx. KRW ₩ 1.5 million) per year up to three years.

Who can apply
Candidates seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the eight institutions in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong Institute of Education, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience, and ethnic background.  Candidates from across the board (for example, in the arts and social sciences, humanities, education studies, languages) are welcome to apply.

How to apply
Eligible candidates should make their initial application through the online system at www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd to obtain a reference number before submitting full applications to their selected institutions.  Full application to HKIEd can be made via our online application system (http://www.ied.edu.hk/acadprog/online/).

Application is now open and the application deadlines are as follows:

Initial Application: 1 December 2012 (at Hong Kong Time 12:00 noon) Full Application to HKIEd: 5 December 2012
