  • General information of Visa to visit Korea: Most tourists can visit Korea for 15 days without a visa, provided they have a return ticket upon entry. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as of today, people from about 100 countries do not require a visa if they are coming to Koreaon a temporary visit. (For the list of visa-exempt countries and for more info on visa regulations visit website: http://www.mofat.go.kr/english/visa/apply/index.jsp)

Jejudo or Jeju Islandhas a special visa status, and citizens of most countries can enter it visa free for 30 to 90 days.

Many nationals may stay for longer periods, one to six months, without visas under reciprocity agreements between Korea and their governments. Visitors planning to work or reside in Koreafor longer periods must have a visa before entry and obtain a foreign resident registration card (a kind of identity card) from a local immigration office within 90 days of arrival.

All visas, including long-term visas, are for a single visit. Anyone wishing to leave Korean and then re-enter during their allowed period of stay must obtain a re-entry permit. Failure to do so will usually result in one's visa being cancelled upon re-entry to Korea.

Visa extensions for tourist visas are possible in special cases such as accidents, health problems, flight cancellations, etc. Applications for visa extensions can be made at a local immigration office at least one day before the day of expiration. Visa extensions are usually issued one to three days following receipt of the application and are normally good for 90 days. Documents required along with the completed application form are: a recent passport-size color photo and the application fee. Note: in Seoul you can obtain visa extensions in various offices, including the Seoul Global Center.
