    1. Chosun University: Administrator Building

      It is the main building of Chosun University as the Korean first private university. In 1947 the construction started and had difficult time in building work because of the Korean war, but all staffs and students' parents promoted the construction at all difficulties and completed the construction within 8 years from the start. It was a building of 5 gable roofed structure, but by extending the building in both sides, it is now formed of 19 gable roofed structure with 370 meter building length. Now it is estimated as the representative building of symbolizing Gwangju because of its unique shape. For more information, visit Chosun University.

    2. Mt. Mudeung Jusangjeollidae (Pillar-shaped Joint Cliff)

      Mudeung mountain is a representative symbol of Gwangju which contains the spirit of Namdo(south western part of Korea) people. Azaleas and powder pink royal azaleas blossoming fully in spring, maple trees and wide grassy fields on the ridge in fall, and snow flower in winter increase the grace of Mt. Mudeung.     3. 5·18 Liberty Park

      5·18 Liberty Park is located across from the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Sangmu district, and has the hall of liberty, exhibiting remnants and images of old times - the guardhouse, the military law court and the Deulbul Seven-Patriots Tower. The guardhouse, where many patriots related to National May 18 Democratic Cemetery in 1980 were detained, and the Sangmudae court where military trials were held, were restored and moved to a location 100 meters away.

    4. The 5 distinct cultural and artistic specialties of Gwangju

      Gwangju is the center of the Honam region, located in the southern part of the Korean peninsula, in the middle of Northease Asia. The town of Dam-Yang lies to the northeast, Jang-Seong to the north, Ham-Pyeong to the West, Na-ju to the south and Hwa-sun to the southeast. It is one of five cities in Korea designated as an autonomous metropolitan city, along with Seoul, Busan, Daegu, and Incheon. It is well connected by plane, train, and express bus with Seoul, Incheon, Busan and all other major cities easily accessible within a day's travel. The capital city, Seoul, is 290.9km, and can be reached in 55 minutes by air plane, 3 hours by the KTX high-speed train, and 3 hours 30 minutes by car. Ports of entry to Korea are Incheon, 311.4 km away, taking 4 hours 10 minutes by car, and Busan, 286.8km requiring roughly 3 hours 50 minutes to reach by car.

    1. Gwangju Folk Museum

      The ground of Gwangju Municipal Folk Museum is quite big. In the front of the museum, there are two stone lanterns in a line. They are reproduced lanterns of the stone lantern, National Treasure No. 44 at Borimsa temple, Yuchi-myeon, Jangheung-gun and the stone lantern, Jeonnam Tangible Cultural Properties No. 134 at Cheongwansa temple, Gwansan-eup, Jangheung-gun. The stone lanterns originally are to enlighten the precincts of a temple or shrine and they light the front yard of the Folk Museum.
